Most people can easily give you a list of those foods that stain you teeth and cause them to yellow. Foods such as tea, coffee, dark colored soda, curry, and soy sauce all can yellow your teeth over time. But, did you know that just as there are foods that stain your teeth there are also some foods that will actually keep your teeth whiter. If you were to eat these foods on a daily basis you could probably save a lot of money on professional cleanings and those over the counter teeth whiteners. Let’s take a look at some of these foods that will help to keep your teeth white.

Carrots, celery and apples lead the list of foods that help you keep that dazzling white smile. The reason that these foods work to clean your teeth is because they are harder foods which when chewed actually scraps or scrubs away recent foods and stains. While there is absolutely no evidence that these foods can remove stains that have been on your teeth for a long period of time they can help new stains from building up.

If you can’t brush your teeth immediately after eating then trying eating some spinach, broccoli, or lettuce before consuming the rest of your meal. These foods leave a film on your teeth that are invisible will form a barrier against those foods that will stain your teeth preventing any additional staining to take place until you can actually brush your teeth.

Milk will also help to keep your teeth white. Drinking a glass of milk during or directly after a meal will neutralize foods that contain acid that will eat away at the enamel on your teeth, which makes your teeth yellow and stain much easier.

Water is the elixir of life and it too will help you to lighter and brighter teeth. Drinking water with your meal and rinsing your mouth will warm water immediately after eating will help rinse away that stain causing residue from some of the other foods that you eat. If that residue isn’t allowed to remain on your teeth then it isn’t going to be able to stain them. It’s that simple.

While none of these foods will take the place of a good teeth whitener eating them on a regular basis can help to keep your teeth whiter for longer thus extended the time between teeth whitening treatments. This will save you money in the long run while still giving you that dazzling smile.
